The removal caps an epic, nasty and expensive 21-year battle that pitted local irrigators against a dwindling population of wild salmon - it's a familiar sad song out west where one can still spot the "I eat spotted owls for breakfsat" bumper stickers on the occasional pickup truck bumper.
